"Half hidden on Creek St. but well worth searching for is this delightful bookstore filled with Alaskan books, cards and local art." Lonely Planet Alaska 8th edition
Alaska Geographic Prince William Sound  $6.95
Alaska Geographic's original issue on Prince William Sound was completed about 20 years ago, before the oil pipeline terminal began operating and before the Exxon Valdez oil tanker went aground on Bligh Reef.  For this completely new issue on the sound, we called on Chris Wooley and Jim Haggarty for a look at the region's ancient people in "the Hidden History of Chugach Bay."  Anchorage resident Marybeth Holleman wrote "A Wilderness Playground," and Kenai Fjords national Park during a cold spell in "Boating Below Zero."  Writer Lone Jamson recalls her two summers working on a floating fish processor in "Esther Island Summers," and fisherman and writer Dan Strickland contributes an overview of Prince William Sound's fisheries, and closer looks at its shellfish and fish processing industries.  Staff writer L.J. Campbell wrote the accounts of the sound's communities: Valdez, Whittier, Chenega Bay, Tatitlek and Cordova; and the reviews of the 1964 Good Friday earthquake, the Exxon Valdez oil spill and Chugach Alaska Regional Corp. Editor Penny Rennick contributed the introduction to this issue on one of Alaska's most beautiful and busy waterways.
